
Praised for his “technically flawless” playing (EarRelevant, Atlanta), “impeccable interpretation,” and “highly refined technique, imagination, and musical taste” (Jornal da Cidade Bauru, Brazil), pianist Vicente Della Tonia has performed in concert halls across Asia, Europe, North and South America.
Early in his career, he received top prizes in numerous piano competitions, including the XXI Concurso Latino-Americano de Piano Rosa Mística and the XX Concurso Nacional de Paulo Giovanini, among others. Recently, Vicente has been featured as a guest artist on WFMT (Chicago) and WABE/WXVS (Atlanta) public radio stations, and performed at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series (Chicago, IL); Universidade Estadual de São Paulo, Faculdade e Conservatório Souza Lima, and Conservatório Baurense (Brazil); the VII Coloquio do Seminario Permanente de Historia y Música (Mexico City); and as a soloist with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra and Perimeter Wind Ensemble (Atlanta, GA).
A highly active pedagogue, Vicente is deeply involved with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and has presented lectures and recitals at both national and state conferences across Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington.
Dr. Della Tonia earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano from the University of South Carolina, where he studied piano under Marina Lomazov and piano pedagogy under Scott Price. He previously studied with Judit Gabòs, Sergio Gallo, and Rosa Maria Tolon Marin, receiving his Master of Music in Piano Performance from Georgia State University, Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Universidade do Sagrado Coração (Brazil), and Artist Diploma/Performance Certificate from Conservatório Musical de Lençóis Paulista (Brazil).
In addition, he has studied with Sonia Rubinsky and taken lessons with Joseph Kalichstein, Tamás Ungár, Yoheved Kaplinsky, John Owings, Joseph Rackers, Cecílio Tieles, and Angel Soler at the PianoTexas International Academy & Festival (Fort Worth, TX), Burgos International Music Festival (Spain), and Curso Internacional de Música de Vila-Seca (Salou, Spain).
Named Georgia Music Teachers Association's Teacher of the Year in 2024 and a two-time recipient of the Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award (2017 and 2020), Dr. Della Tonia currently serves as Coordinator of Keyboard Studies and Associate Professor of Piano at Georgia State University – Perimeter College at Clarkston, where he is also the founder and director of the Perimeter PianoFest.
Prior to his position at Georgia State, he held teaching appointments at Allen University and the University of South Carolina’s Community Music School (Columbia, SC); Claflin University (Orangeburg, SC); and Seminário Santo Antônio and Conservatório Musical de Lençóis Paulista in Brazil.
Vicente Della Tonia is a recording artist with ACA Digital Recording, and his debut album featuring works by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos is available on all major streaming platforms.
