Praised for his “impeccable interpretation” and “highly refined technique, imagination and musical taste” (Jornal da Cidade Bauru, Brazil), pianist Vicente Della Tonia, Jr. has performed in concert halls throughout Europe, North and South America. Earlier in his career, he received top prize awards in numerous piano competitions, including the XXI Concurso Latino-Americano de Piano Rosa Mística, XX Concurso Nacional de Paulo Giovanini, and the III Concurso Nacional de Piano Maestro Rodrigo Tavares. Recently, Vicente has been featured as a guest artist in the WFMT and WXVS/WABE public radio stations, and at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series (Chicago, IL), Universidade Estadual de São Paulo, Faculdade e Conservatório Souza Lima, Conservatório Baurense (in Brazil), the VII Coloquio do Seminario Permanente de História y Música (Mexico City), as well as a soloist with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra and the Perimeter Wind Ensemble (Atlanta, GA). He has been highly involved with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and presented lectures and recitals at the national and state conferences in various states such as Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.
Vicente received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano from the University of South Carolina, where he studied piano under the guidance of Marina Lomazov and piano pedagogy under Scott Price. Prior to this, he studied piano with Judit Gabòs, Sergio Gallo and Rosa Maria Tolon Marin, and received the Master of Music in Piano Performance (Georgia State University), Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (Universidade do Sagrado Coração, Brazil) and Artist Diploma/Certificate (Conservatório Musical de Lençóis Paulista, Brazil). Additionally, Vicente studies with Sonia Rubinsky and has had lessons with Joseph Kalichstein, Tamás Ungár, Yoheved Kaplinsky, John Owings, Joseph Rackers, Cecílio Tieles, Angel Soler at the “Piano Texas International Academy & Festival” (Fort Worth, Texas), “Burgos International Music Festival” (Burgos, Spain) and “Curso Internacional de Música de Vila-Seca” (Salou, Spain).
Currently, Dr. Vicente Della Tonia, Jr. is Coordinator of Keyboard Studies and Associate Professor of Piano at Georgia State University/Perimeter at Clarkston, where he is the founder and director of the Perimeter PianoFest, the Distinguish Guest Artist Masterclass Series and the Young Artists Recital Series. Prior to Georgia State University, he was a faculty member at Allen University and University of South Carolina’s Community Music School in Columbia, SC; Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC; and Seminário Santo Antônio and Conservatório Musical de Lençóis Paulista, both in Brazil.
Two-time recipient of the Steinway & Sons’ Top Teacher Award of the Year (2017 and
2020), his students have received high praises and earned top prize awards in competitions throughout the USA and Brazil. Dr. Della Tonia has been in demand as an adjudicator and has served on the jury panel of over one-hundred competitions, auditions and examinations locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. He currently serves as a jury member of the Osaka International Music Competition, Federation of Music Clubs and Music Teachers National Association.
Furthermore, he is President of the Atlanta Music Teachers Association and Vice President of Auditions for the Georgia Music Teachers Association.
